    Counsellor

    The Therapy Room, CB4 3PH

I’m a Registered MBACP counsellor in Cambridge and use a mix and match style (also known as an ”integrative approach”). This might include looking at practical coping techniques for issues such as anxiety, exploring the past to try to understand feelings and behaviours; and very much looking at how people feel now and what is happening in their world. The focus is on the individual, and what s/he wants to bring to counselling. I don’t judge and I don’t give advice; my role is to guide clients to explore how they feel and to help them better understand what’s going on in their world. I mostly do this by listening and talking. I feel it’s important to work at each client's pace – coming to therapy can be very challenging. Some people come for short-term therapy e.g. 2-6 sessions, others longer-term. As well as working in private practice, I work for a national Employee Assistance Programme; and I have worked extensively for the mental health charity MIND in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, and managed an in-house counselling service with a local GP Practice. My therapy room is on Oxford Road in Cambridge (just off Huntingdon Road as you go out of town) - it's warm, quiet and inviting. There's plenty of parking and cycle racks to the back of the building and public transport links.

Sometimes, when we're experiencing anxiety our thoughts can feel confusing and stressful and it can be difficult to know where to start to think about how to sort them out. I offer a confidential, non-judgemental and safe space which will allow you the opportunity to start to untangle these thoughts. To process them and look at why they might not be working effectively and how changing them can work better to allow you to prepare for and respond to everyday situations in a way that leaves you feeling more confident and more comfortable. I have gained substantial experience working in addiction recovery organisations. If you are looking to progress with addiction recovery, I can work with you to explore how issues might be affecting you to trigger addictive behaviour. How you can reconcile the past to be able to focus on shaping the present and the future. Looking at how you can plan to make step-by-step progress towards achieving your goals and managing life situations in a way that you feel is more suitable for making progress.
